actually, a common misconception is that the midget died. The Edge actually stated in an interview during the PopMart tour that it was in fact the girlfriend. Great songs though.

Actually, the midget died. But this was a metaphor about dreams dying. Like when you have a dream and you seize it, but it always run away from you, so you do that, you bury the dream somewhere and go on with your life. Sometimes it was just not meant to be. Everyone is free to choose what to do, even if their choices end up proving to be mistakes.
