First the title of that book is a lie we lost vietnam it was a disaster, the acusation that the President lied was proven true, the ship that was "attacked" had no enemy forces go anywhere near it and had no attack upon it. This is no longer an accusation it was proven. The US did not belong there, and on top of that we were part of the cause (the leader of the north originally wanted our help and we rejected him so russia stepped in.

I'm not making "wild accusations". We were told (so says my mother who watched it on television) that we were going into Vietnam because some American ships had been fired upon in the Gulf of Tonkin. No such attack happened. That is not a "wild accusation", that is a fact and a LIE that the President told us in order to begin military operations there.

You should read "Unheralded Victory: The Defeat of the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army" (written by a Marine who served in Vietnam) before you make wild accusations like that. It's a real eye-opener about a lot of the myths and lies about the Vietnam War, particularly the accusations that it was built on a lie, that atrocities were common place, etc.
