Cecil is a little out there with his Sprechstimme (sp?) poetry, but when he plays that ceases to matter. His sense of structure is uncanny. I've seen him twice and he was red hot the whole time. Unbelievable musician!

It's like we're listening to the mind of a mad scientist. Chaos is the most organized arrangement.

have lived with this ICON off and on for the last 15yrs. what is being played in this vid is usually played everyday while he practices minus a couple chords of middle C. and he would have a fit! that people are listining to his poetry without paying him. Yea! Seeing Cecil play live is the real experience. Partying with him is another and you'll never get a word-in edge wise.Especially if he's on his condiments.

This ain't very far out. Check out his Algonquin. It's sounds like something akin to the serialists.

Outstanding! My sister lives in Manhattan. Today she called and said she partied with this guy Cecil Taylor and was wondering if I had ever heard of him.....;). Jazz is part of my life so of course I knew of him. I am very glad that my sister had the chance to meet him and hear his music. What a blessing that she gets to experience so many things that I only see on TV or hear on the radio. God bless Cecil for continuing to share his talent!!
