Yes, some of this stuff is a little on the light side but overall I enjoyed it. If the ukes had swords in their hands the intensity would be different but as it was he may as well be drinking a cup of coffee in his free hand.

I agree completely, and as I said, the building of connection. It is respectable, believe me, I know the reality of Aiki, I have trained with Take Sensei's Student's there is truth there. Martial Art's were not designed to be pretty, they're battlefield training, hence "martial", guess I'm just old school mentality. Thanks for the reply.

In addressing your comment, I have to say that the context by which this video displays itself is not an example of combat, rather the application of the technique. It is extremely effective in the disarmament of an opponent and can quickly subdue an aggressor in various ways. That is precisely why they played out each scenario slowly, so as to recognize the subtle nuances of the art. You are right in that the aggression is not there, because this is simply a demonstration of Aikido. Not combat.

He moves too early everytime. It makes it pretty, but martially wrong... he probably knows this though

If they are trying to build connection that's one thing, but to say this is realism is wrong in all senses. I would have liked to have heard him speak prior to this video. The aggression is not there, and in that aspect, neither is the intensity. Aiki, has definate harmony, but the way I train in it, as an MMA, practitioner, I us it in a far more deadly practicality, it never looks this pretty. |
