I don't think you understand the amount of focus and control it takes to perform so well, I used to do a similar routine, but under a different Fighting style, and it is used to instill focus and Calm, not to show how much he can blep a rudeboy or whatever you think his soul purpose is to do.

Sorry idiot; a "kata", in whatever point in history, is a completely useless fucking dance routine when compared to an actual fight. It has zero potential for preparing anyone to fight. Such things only exist for appearances and to dazzle the idiot mind. So yes, people do know; the answer is that katas have nothing to do with fighting.

Well, that could be accurate, except for the many facts that stand against you, such as many forms look like dances because at points through out history practicing the forms was a criminal act, s practing martial arts was illegal, so many systems disguised their katas in what looked like dances, adding certain unneeded movements and the like. Of course, many schools and styles now do try to get people simply based on how cool they look. So who really knows? Probably not either of us ;P

No it's not "beauty and war" you idiot. It's oriental mystification and stupification aimed at a credulous, ignorant, and superstitious chinese peasant population. There is no "real battle"; everything you see is designed to dazzle simpleton farmers. He is not going to kick anyone's ass jerkoff; they do not fight even in so-called "training". This is because, like most religions, their true purpose is to gain power, which they do through absurd fairy tales of kung fu glory. Live in reality.

I totally agree. (You sound like a someone who has been studying something for awhile) very keen observation mate.

forms are set stances, strikes and blocks that show different techniques in a martial art. these forms show how techniques can be used stringed in a sequence. many parts of a form can be used in many different ways depending on the situation. that is one of the objectives of learning a form. the other objectives you need to find out by yourselves. hehe

As himitsu2 said, forms like this is to show the core of a style, and tos how that you got techniques right. In a fight nobody fight likes this, they take techniques they've learned and use them as the situation needs.

I read a couple of these comments and it puzzles me. All of this "He looks like he's dancing" or "You just need go up and kick him in the middle of his routine" He is using the routine as a display of his art. It's a certain style that he's showing. He's not going to be dancing around in a real battle! He's going to be kicking your ass in a real battle! These styles showcase the years of discipline and training they have endured throughout their life. Its beauty and war. It's balance.

I'd love to have learned this, but there's no under 18 Shaolin martial arts schools in Scotland. So I settled for Wing Chun and boxing instead.
