lol yeah, I do traditional jiujitsu / judo. So I agree, only ne waza isn't enough, you should add tachi waza. Though even that (than you' got judo :P isn't enough) you should also add all else (than you've got traditional jiujitsu) to your arsenal. So that you know that by 'leaping spider monkey type humg thing into the guard' causes a big knee right in ya face. ^^, or a necklock

Excuse me?
So you're saying fighting has nothing to do with the martial arts.
The fact is, all effective fighting systems were developed through trial and error, through fighting itself. Using the knowledge of your predecessors is useful if you know that what they used was valid. Once you divorce the knowledge of effectiveness and simply employ techniques because it's always the way it's been done, the art rapidly becomes ineffective. Doubly so when you don't pressure test it.

no thats pounding each other... martial arts came from significant people who decided to develope specific ways of defence and attack... cavemen pounding on each other was just brute force violence, nothing to do with martial art

And your point? All martial arts come from cavement who learned to pound each other. Does that make caveman-pounding the ultimate best ever martial art?

yes you would be punched square in the face, not exactly hard to hit their, but then again a jiu jitsu fighter getting you in a painfull jointlock it puts you out of commision pretty quick

A smart bjj practicioner would just add judo throws to their arsenal. For some reason people are trying to learn nothing but bjj and when they go for the take down, instead of a decent throw, they do this leaping spider monkey type hump thing into the guard. Can any fighter please have the decency to tell me that youd get punched in the face trying that in a real fight

Ripper, that's the one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. Fedor Emalianenko has a black belt in Judo, won #1 in 2000 Judo competition in Russia, trained Judo and was in other Judo competitions as well. How come he is not a Judoka? |
