To take the new IBF title, which was at first created to be a legit body as opposed to the corrupt WBA and WBC. Now they are all the same though...

yeah, but y did he bin the W,B,C title later?
ph1484 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
At this time the WBA didn't even rate Holmes as a contender! Amazing, right? Not all his fault.

larry can't complain about the spinks fight after this gift. i guess sometimes you get the elevator, sometimes the shaft.

wow larry lost 10 11 12 i dont know how witherspoon lost, larry came back in the last min of 9 but lost the entire first 2 minutes it was a great fight but larry clearly lost still like tim he really never got his just due either which is why i remain a witherspoon/holmes/holyfeild fan more than most because they presented themselves with dignity, never ducked anyone and now their fights are being seen again and their talent really shines above unobscured by the politics of the era.

Blame Don King and the boxing politics of the early 80s.

Witherspoon won that fight comfortably !! Alot of respect to Holmes though true warrior. A prime Holmes would have probably knock out Witherspoon !!

Chuck Hassett shoulda been shot.
