he comes from the old judo era in which it focused equally the ground and standing. his ground was one of the best helio in his prime couldnt beat him.

okay i dont take judo but i do know that kimura fought in pro wrestling and catch as catch can matches and fought in brazil and kicked the snot out of helio gracie. and helio isnt a push over. but in the video i see kimura doing the figure 4 choke 6:34 double wristlock takedown(7:07)but then again mostly every style has those moves but ive never seen a judoka focus on those moves.

The first lesson in judo is: learning how to fall. The second: knowing when to ignore all of the training and save your life using every trick on earth. The Olympic version of this "sport" has become a parody and rank exhibitionism. Hardly the "gentle way".

The name Kimura is sononomyous with Modern day MMA esp BJJ according to wiki Helio Gracie gave the name Kimura when he was defeated to d great Masahiko Kimura when he lost to a armlock there 4 any arm lock these days is called Kimura.
