This is a "Persistence Hunt" of a Male Kudu, by tribesman of the San on the Kalahari Desert of Africa. Thoroughly blew my mind! This.....this is hunting. An almost transcendental means of acquiring animal protein. The final act in and of itself is completely in tune with the Natural World and the ultimate in respect and honor both of and for it. This is how our distant ancestors survived. We have unfortunately lost this connection to Life.......... I would like to see Billy Ray Joe Bob Sue Redneck American with his 90lb. beer belly, and without his .30-06 and scope attempt this. Not a chance. The guys filming this on the ground must have had ATV's. There is no other way they could have kept up. Great work BBC! I know some of you might be vegetarians or vegans, but face it peeps, our dentition is that of an omnivore. Even our closest relative the chimpanzee is an omnivore. I absolutely love animals and don't want them to suffer either. Subsequently I at least won't eat veal or buy fur....but this video is part of the Circle of Life. We are at the top of the food chain afterall. And to deny that simple truth is to indeed deny part of that which ultimately makes us human.

To any idiot that judges this costume why don't we compare this hunting practice to that of two prominent political figures here in the "sophisticated" United States. Persistence hunting requires skill, tenacity and represents a way many early civilizations hunted while maintaining the animals competitive advantage. In comparison to shooting animals from a helicopter with a high caliber rifle miles away from the animal then lording over your kill or shooting penned quail and still failing.

Stunning! If I hadn't seen it, I don't know if I would have believed it could be done. Hats off to the hunters and their persistance, compassion for the animal, and for Attenborough for bringing us the story. Fabulous!

Wow, you express your evolved intellect really well here. Don't knock an "out of style" sustainable society that could go on for thousands of years. How long do you think the earth can sustain your preferred lifestyle?

Modern man is just as savage; at any rate, I'd sooner be inducted into the tribe featured in this video than take a bed under your roof.

This is an amazing video. Tracking is deeply ingrained in our evolutionary history. In fact, the part of the human brain that allows us to recognize particular kinds of animal tracks - the angular gyrus - is also the primary locus of written letter and number perception. We've essentially co-opted our tracking abilities for written language. So while you're reading this, you're using some of the same brain areas that Koroe was using to track the kudu. :)

seeing the bull collapse and be sacrificed really brings home how disconnected we are from the animals we all consume daily ...

And that is what the TV licence fee is all about.

what a profound video, the best i've seen on youtube. Their is such a gentle syncopation to all of this. Brilliant.

That's exactly my point, numbnuts. We evolved, and thus no longer have to be so primitive; they didn't.
aoluo (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
also wtf do you expect when youre that primitive? i mean, humans are one of the slowest animals around, we couldnt outrun many animals even if our life depended on it. A wolf/dog could outrun an olympic sprinter. But we have endurance, no fur, bipedal etc. Think about it dumbass.
