they throw themselves because if they don't they will break there arm legs etc.

It's a little bit of both. The Nage (defender) applies a certain technique the Uke (Attacker), has been trained well enough to go with the throw and move accordingly. Often times, in training, well trained practitioners when the improvise, it will look like it was planned. As for this demo, they might have rehearsed it for the show. Even among well trained practitioners, mistakes happen, and people get hurt. Hope that helps.

I've just started Aidkido, and yes the "throws" are real, although they're not really throws, more like monopolising on your partners unbalanced state....sometimes the "throws" they may look fake or exaggerated, but part of aikido training is being taught how to land properly. Seriously,if you don't learn how to,there's a good chance you could brake something!!!!!

It´s not about throwing. They throw themselves for the demo. If the one doing the "throws" applies enough force and you do not jump to escape the pressure the movements will not throw you, but break your joints...
